Situated near the edge of the village of Higher Kinnerton the School is at the heart of a vibrant and growing community on the Flintshire/Cheshire border. It is set in spacious grounds which include a sports field, 2 playgrounds, 2 Foundation Phase play areas with safety surfaces, and landscaped borders. The school is situated in the County of Flintshire with school funding delegated from Flintshire LEA this is supplemented by the many fund raising activities of the Friends of Derwen School (FODS).
Kinnerton Village Hall was opened in 1959 and is the focal point of indoor village events.
The main hall is home to Kinnerton Drama Society and Kinnerton Indoor Bowls Club.

The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities. The Kinnerton WI is based in the Higher Kinnerton Village Hall holding monthly events and activities. The WI is open to all women from 18 years of age. Come along and join us. Kinnerton Scout Group has its own headquarters situated next to the main road recreation ground. We have four groups, Beavers (age 6-8 years), Cubs (age 8-10.5 years), Scouts (age 10.5-14 years) and Explorers (age 14-18 years). The scout group has its own minibus and a range of excellent outdoor equipment.

Higher Kinnerton Indoor Bowls Club are based in the Village Hall. The season runs from September to March. We hold a four bowls singles Competition in November and doubles competitions in February. The Club has a Team in the Clwyd Short Mat Tuesday League also runs from September to March. Other Events are a Christmas Dinner in December and a Social Event in the closed season. All age groups are welcome.
Kinnerton Oaks hosts under 7's, under 11's and under 14's youth football teams. The teams are coached by experienced and qualified coaches which makes them very popular with young footballers and parents in and around the village. There are currently have over 100 youth and junior players registered with several teams playing during the regular season.

The Community Craft Group was started last year because some WI members were concerned that there was a need for something of this kind in the village. The WI does have training in crafts but these take place outside the village and a number of our members do go to them. Please come along to see what we do, you will be made most welcome. We meet on the first Friday of the month at 1.30pm in the village hall.
